Tasting notes MACALLAN 18 yo SHERRY WOOD
Nose: the sherry influence can immediately be smelled. Berries, cherries and strawberries, are accompanied by notes of plum. Afterwards it’s the turn of nuts, almond and hazelnut to be specific. After a minute or so, a suave flavor of white pepper appears. Everything is convoluted by hints of milk chocolate.
Palate: complex. The gradation is adequate. Sweet, but not excessive. Red fruits, among which are cherries and black cherries and after a few seconds also strawberries can be tasted, are perceptible at first. The peppery sensation returns after a few moments. Then it reveals notes of cocoa and hazelnut. A bitter wooden sensation concludes the palate.
Finale: long persistence. Extremely coherent with the palate. Notes of red fruits. Slightly astringent. Delicate spices last for a long time. Cocoa and coffee beans.
Overall a glorious benchmark of the past. This product renews year after year the complexity and pleasantness of this distillery. The balance between the different components is excellent, complexity is medium-high. It can excite any palate.
