TASTING NOTES – CRAGGANMORE 12 YEAR OLD SPECIAL RELEASE 2019

Nose

First, many variations of peat from seaweeds to burnt cinders, never aggressive or overwhelming. Then, smooth notes of cream, pears, some hints of citrus. It has an elegant wood character paired to a delicate spiciness. Despite the high ABV, there’s no sign of alcohol to the nose.

Palate

The taste confirms the olfactory profile. Notes of pear and wood are accompanied by refined peat and citrus, mainly lemon peel. There is also a rich aroma of wood spices now along with cinnamon and vanilla.

Finish

Very long persistence. The alcoholic strength is definitely perceivable but perfectly balanced by an intense mineral finishing with more notes of wood, yellow fruits, and elegant peat.

Even if cask strength, the Cragganmore 12 years old special release 2019 is a very balanced whisky. It’s rich and structured, with a delicate peat that enriches the flavor profile without overwhelming it. A great limited edition, that scored the third best whisky of 2019 in our Awards.
