Caol Ila releases an unpeated malt every year for the Special Releases range. It’s the biggest distillery on Islay, with an output of 6 millions liters of pure alcohol per year. The production of unpeated whisky is very limited.

TASTING NOTES Caol Ila 18 “Unpeated Style” 2017
Nose: the nose is very close, given the high ABV. Yellow fruits: unripe bananas, apples, and a gentle note of apricots. Vanilla, sweets and spices.
Palate: the spicy note increases: white pepper along with custard and again a lot of yellow fruits. A slighlty tannic note.
Finish: long and intense. Again notes of custard, spices and yellow fruits.
It’s not a complex whisky, but it allows us to explore a hiddn side of this very popular distillery. It’s very sweet and fruity, but the tannic notes gives the spirit a little austerity.
Score: 85
