Bongani Robusto

Bongani Robusto

Bongani Robusto 1600 900 Michel Arlia

Africa has a long tradition of tobacco cultivation, but there have not been any African cigar brands around yet. This changed with the introduction of the Bongani brand.

Bongani, which means “be grateful,” is the first African cigar brand and produces Puros (cigars made only from tobacco cultivated in Africa). The cigars are rolled in their factory located in Mozambique, and they produce three sizes: 458 (Gordito),  658 (Toro), and Robusto.

Bongani Robusto

Bongani Robusto: the cold draw gives off aromas of hay and wood. Once lit, peppery and woody notes are revealed.

Bongani Robusto

The pepper, mainly black pepper, and wood, carry into the first third, followed by coffee and nuts. There is also a subtle sweetness present in the background. Strength is medium (3/5).

The middle section adds a herbal sensation to the coffee, nuts, pepper, and wood profile. The strength remains unchanged, and the profile has a certain twang to it, that isn’t easy to describe.

In the final third, the profile evolves slightly, with the pepper note becoming spicier and the herbs turning balsamic. The strength increases to a medium-full level (4/5).

Overall, the Bongani Robusto delivers a flavorful and intense smoke. While the profile may read as your run-of-the-mill flavors, this cigar brings an interesting twang to each of the classic flavors known to Caribbean cigars.
