H. Upmann Connossieur No. 2

H. Upmann Connossieur No. 2

H. Upmann Connossieur No. 2 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The H. Upmann Connossieur No. 2 was launched at a virtual event by Habanos S.A. in 2020. This is the first time that Habanos S.A. has introduced a 51 ring gauged cigar. For more info, click here.

The factory name of the size is called “Bohemios”. Oddly enough, the H. Upmann now has five cigars that are quite close in size and would generally be considered a Robusto.

Visually, the cigar is dressed in a Colorado shaded wrapper, that despite having only small veins present, is still quite toothy. Except for one soft spot in the middle of the cigar, the construction is good.

H. Upmann Connessieur No. 2

H. Upmann Connossieur No. 2: the cold draw brings aromas of ripe fruits, wood, and spices to the palate. Once lit, the cigar opens with hazelnut, wood, and leather.

H. Upmann Connessieur No. 2

Further into the first third, the hazelnut and wood become the primary flavors. Leather and coffee are mingling in the background. There is also a nuanced spicy component present through the nose. Strength is medium (3/5).

In the second third, the hazelnut and wood combination remains the main flavors, with leather and cream following right behind it. There is now also a light sweetness present in the background. The spicy component, mainly cinnamon, is exclusively present in the retro-hale. Strength remains medium-bodied.

The last third continues with hazelnut, wood, and leather. The sweetness and creaminess have disappeared. Instead, the coffee returns, and the spice, now black pepper, is now perceptible on the palate. There is also some harshness appearing. Towards the end, the pepper ramps up, as does the strength, becoming medium-full (4/5).

Overall, the H. Upmann Connossieur No. 2 is already a good smoke for its age. The youth only appears in the last third; nothing a little time in the humidor will take care of. The only issue is the burn line, which had to be corrected multiple times.
