Pierre Ferrand 1840 Original Formula 1600 900 Kaarel Kluge

The Pierre Ferrand 1840 Original Formula is a VS Cognac, which stands for Very Special. This category, in the Cognac world, refers to products not aged for a long time (usually 2 years). That said, this cognac is aged for three years in Limousin oak. The grapes used for its making are grown in the Grande Champagne region. The Pierre Ferrand 1840 Original Formula is marketed to be used in long-drinks and cocktails.

TASTING NOTES – PIERRE FERRAND 1840 ORIGINAL FORMULA

Nose

Rather vibrant, with scents of raisins, cinnamon, and honeyed wood. Simple profile, quite a bit of youth, little liqueur, really very sweet.

Palate

Decent arrival, nice intensity. It delivers notes of melon liqueur, orange marmalade, and little baked apple. There are also vanilla and cinnamon. Then, unfortunately, quite a bit of sugar, very sweet.

Finish

Medium persistence. Honey, wood, Kahlua and some mild burnt bitterness.

Overall, the Pierre Ferrand 1840 Original Formula is bottled with an interesting 45%, that gives to this cognac a nice intensity, but the sugary notes are a little too much and it resembles more of a liquor than a cognac.
