For a few weeks, the Rubesto, the second cigar produced by the Colonial, has been available at retailers in Italy. The shape is the only thing that recalls the Italian tradition, since the cigar consists of long filler leaves. The 3 count packs are sold for 12 euros.

Visually, the cigar is wrapped in a shiny Maduro shaded wrapper. There is also a sort of finish to the head of the cigar, similar to how it is done with premium cigars. The veins are light and the wrapper is silky to the touch.
Il Coloniale Rubesto: unlit, the aromas are light and recall earth and wood, with delicate nuances of pepper.
The opening is played on a delicate salty-acid duet. Flavor-wise, the cigar expresses itself with notes of earth, walnut and almond. Strength is medium (3/5).
In the central part, the flavors remain unchanged while the acid component gives way to a bitter taste that becomes increasingly more structured. The flavor profile undergoes a slight evolution compared to the first third. Next to the earth note, wood and cellulose appear as well. Strength remains stable (3/5).
Overall, the Colonial Rubesto releases a smoke that presents complexity, intensity and evolution, while losing ground on the balance (the bitter taste, that becomes more and more marked, is not particularly pleasant). The first third is convincing in its simplicity, while the remaining part reveals a less performing cigar. Ideal if you are looking for a distracted and not too demanding smoke.
