CAO Pilon Toro

CAO Pilon Toro

CAO Pilon Toro 800 450 Luca Cominelli

CAO Pilon Toro is a cigar produced in Nicaragua, which belongs to the portfolio of STG (Scandinavian Tobacco Group). Pilon, in this instance, referres to an old method of fermentation. Instead of  large square piles, that can be as large as 7 meters long, by 3 meters wide and up to 2 meters high, this piles are smaller and round.

What is the difference between this two methods? The temperature in this Pilones is lower, thus the tobacco needs to ferment longer.

• Country of Origin: Nicaragua
• Size: 58 x 152 mm (6″)
• Wrapper: Ecuador
• Binder: Nicaragua
• Filler: Nicaragua
• Price: 8€

The size is actually closer to a Gordo, then to an actual Toro.

Aesthetically, the wrapper is of a Colorado shade. It is rough to the touch. Filling in a uniform and generous.

 width=

CAO Pilon Toro: unlit, hints of wood and hay. The opening brings notes of black pepper, with a touch hazelnut, to the palate.

The first third alternates black pepper and chili spices. From the first puffs on, the flavor profile is pronounced and gives rise to a satisfying and rich smoke. Strength is medium (3/5).

 width=

In the second third, vegetal and woody notes are joined by coffee and hints of cinnamon. Spices are omnipresent. Strength grows slightly (3.5/5).

In the last third, a roasted coffee component is brought to the forefront, together with the spices (black pepper). The finish is rewarding.

Flavors are rich and an evolution is perceptible as well, this “Toro” is among the best Gordos we have tested so far.
