Caroni 17 1998/2015 Velier

Caroni 17 1998/2015 Velier 800 451 Federico Bosco

Caroni is a rum distillery that closed in 2003, in Trinidad & Tobago. Its warehouses were rediscovered in 2004 and since then the releases have always been well received by fans. This version is a blend of various 17-year-old barrels, barrels matured exclusively on site.

TASTING NOTES CARONI 17

Nose: decidedly intense and very complex, a feature that often distinguishes the Caroni family. It releases hints of paraffin, sustained by spices, including white pepper and cinnamon. Then continues with cocoa and coffee beans. There is also a sweet hint of white grapes, reminiscent of some armagnac.

Palate: immediately intense. The gradation, rather high, is, however, not difficult to deal with. The fruity notes perceived at the nose (apricot, peach, strawberry jam, sour cherries and plums) are repeated, supported by the spicy component which is now more pronounced.

Finish: of long persistence. It releases spices (black pepper and cinnamon), cocoa, strawberry and apricot.

The Caroni 17 1998/2015 Velier is a great product. On the nose we find many characteristics typical for a Caroni, but with a greater level of complexity. On the palate it performs very well and the persistence confirms how this 17 years is a high quality product.
